Since December, this female Northern Cardinal has been hanging around.
She doesn't have a lot of white; its just around her face, but it does make her look quite striking.
I haven't yet succeeded in getting a truly good picture of her. She seems a bit more shy than some of the other cardinals. The white-faced bird does come up to the feeders, but as soon as she sees me with the camera she'll dart back to the trees. There's a small cherry tree that seems to be her favorite.
Yesterday I had another interesting visitor. There's been a plethora of Red-winged Blackbirds and Common Grackles here the past week or so, but yesterday afternoon one came to the feeder that stood out. The first thing that I noticed was that this Red-winged Blackbird had a couple of white retricies.
Upon closer inspection I noticed white feathers on his belly and vent area, and then a few more white feathers around his collar and near his right eye.
He had two white tail feathers, R2 and R3 on the left side. Though he did not stick around for long, he didn't seem to mind me taking some pictures through the sliding glass door.
I haven't had the time to go out and bird much, so it's really nice to see some interesting birds around home.
